Review For Movie Avatar
Cameron's 'Avatar': Brainy & Beautiful
Joe Baltake-Passionate Moviegoer

The narrative would be ho-hum without the spectacle. But what spectacle! Avatar is dizzying, enveloping, vertiginous ... I ran out of adjectives an hour into its 161 minutes.
David Edelstein-New York Magazine

I had the feeling coming out of this movie that I haven't felt since maybe I was eleven years old in 1977 and I saw Star Wars for the first time.
A.O. Scott-At the Movies

It's a remote-control movie experience, a high-tech "wish you were here" scribbled on a very expensive postcard.
Stephanie Zacharek-Salon.com

The most-hyped movie of the year just about merits it.
Amy Biancolli-San Francisco Chronicle

Big money, big risk, pretty big reward. That's been his consistent pattern, and it's high time to give credit where credit is overdue: James Cameron delivers.
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

Avatar showed me something I have never seen before. It reminded me of what movies can do, of what they're capable of, of what the experience of sitting down for three hours in a dark room can really mean.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

Cameron's $300 million baby is nothing but a 5- and 10-cent snore.
Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger

This sci-fi epic would be a masterpiece if judged solely on its technical merits.
Rob Humanick-Projection Booth

Cameron is flexing his creative muscles, but the film never overcomes the nagging feeling that he's also simply going through the motions.
Rob Humanick-Projection Booth

Piercing the hype, Avatar may not be a "game changer", but I'll be damned if the game didn't just get a hell of a lot more interesting from here on in.
Ali Gray-TheShiznit.co.uk

While it wasn't the most original narrative, it serves the film well, even if it was merely a template for Cameron to show us this gorgeous world and its landscapes.
Jeff Beck-Examiner.com

Planet Pandora's plant and animal life is done with a wonder that has been often absent from fiction screens.
Donald J. Levit-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

It's both wildly original and hauntingly familiar, like Dances With Wolves in a galaxy far, far away.
Neil Pond-American Profile

It is far too long and the romance is half-hearted. Still, you'd have to travel very far to feel so fully immersed in another world.
Stella Papamichael-Digital Spy

It's good. It should have been better.
Widgett Walls-Needcoffee.com

It may not change the world, but it'll certainly provide enjoyment to many millions of people all over it.
Mike Edwards-What Culture

As a fantasy epic, Avatar is an undeniable victory ... but outside of the narrow confines of immersion he's managed, it's also quite limited.
Joshua Starnes-ComingSoon.net

The nature scenes are nothing short of magical in this film.
James Plath-Movie Metropolis

Spiritually moving, visually daring and emotionally stirring, Avatar is classic storytelling at its very best.
R. L. Shaffer-IGN DVD

"Avatar" looks amazing on Blu-ray. If the plot wasn't so pedestrian, it could have been a great film. Paul Chambers, CNN.
Paul Chambers-CNNRadio

If you ever wondered what a live-action Hayao Miyazaki film would look like, Avatar is a damn good approximation.
Jeff Meyers-Metro Times (Detroit, MI)

You can feel Cameron's anger and his passion every time a Na'vi roars. The most exhilarating moments are those when you can feel the director urging his actors to let go completely, to become furious, and to unleash hell.
Simon Miraudo-Quickflix

For all the justifiable knocks on James Cameron's writing, his personal investment in any project is never in doubt. With "Avatar," his passion for pushing the very possibilities of film as a medium pays off. Here's hoping we see him again before 2021.
Nick Rogers-Suite101.com

Avatar is a joyous celebration of story craft and the visual possibilities of cinema. Cameron had set his sights on taking the technology of film where no one had gone before. And he delivers. Avatar is stunning. Cameron and Peter Jackson's Weta Digital h

Review For Movie Hunky Dory
Golden-hued, feel-good treacle, the sort that the U.K. has tried to export ever since Billy Elliot.
Amy Nicholson-Los Angeles Times

The golden-hued cinematography (a filming cliché that really needs to be retired) and the sometimes slack direction by Marc Evans are minuses ...
Lou Lumenick-New York Post

At various moments this endearing but sudsy movie, which spills all over the place, evokes "High School Musical," "Glee" and "Billy Elliot."
Stephen Holden-New York Times

Hunky Dory flits along blithely from number to transporting musical number until it ends - with a sigh - and dodges any authentic engagement with its own ideas.
Joel Arnold-NPR

Enthusiasm carries the day in this paint-by-numbers period tale, which is just charming enough to coast on its own clichés.
Elizabeth Weitzman-New York Daily News

Hunky Dory has some pleasant things in it, but unfortunately, the funereal pace makes a snail look like a jackrabbit.
Rex Reed-New York Observer

A period piece spin on Glee, as filtered through the gauzy lens of underclass-artistic-exuberance that's plagued a subset of comedic-leaning British imports ever since Billy Elliot.
Brent Simon-Shockya.com

A lyrically and emotionally intense coming of age tale. Touching on a teacher's struggle against the educational establishment in a search for the liberating musical self-expression of her students.
Prairie Miller-WBAI Radio

Although not perfect, 'Hunky Dory' offers much to admire. For example, the film's glorious finale almost took my breath away.
Betty Jo Tucker-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

Director Marc Evans and screenwriter Laurence Coriat fumble both the musical side of their movie and the coming-of-age side.
Noel Murray-AV Club

An appealing drama set in Wales in 1976 about a high school rock opera version of Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat-Spirituality and Practice

It's pleasant, forgettably feelgood and unabashedly hackneyed, doing everything you expect it to - nothing more, nothing less.
Aaron Yap-Flicks.co.nz

Dory has a spark that never catches fire, leaving the bulk of its personality up to Driver and her interesting take on the often strange moods of this coming-of-age musical drama.
Brian Orndorf-Blu-ray.com

There's at least one sub-plot too many, but audiences willing to suspend disbelief will be swept up as the greatest high school band in the history of music perform an impeccable selection of hits.
Paul Gallagher-The List

The earnest playing of the orchestra and the lo-fi warbling touch the heart in a way that a more polished production might not.
Anthony Quinn-Independent

If Hunky is hellishly clunky, it's also good-hearted and well-intentioned with some laughs and decent tunes.
Siobhan Synnot-Scotsman

Release Date : Mar 29, 2013 Limited
Genre Movie :Documentary,Television,Horror
Actors :Bill Blakemore,Geoffrey Cocks,Juli Kearns,John Fell Ryan,Jay Weldner,Buffy Visick
Mpaa Rating : Unrated
Plot Story : Many movies lend themselves to dramatic interpretations, but none as rich and far ranging as Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. In LA filmmaker Rodney Ascher's ROOM 237, we hear from people who have developed far-reaching theories and believe they have decoded the hidden symbols and messages buried in the late director's film. Carefully examining The Shining inside out, and forwards and backwards, ROOM 237 is equal parts captivating, provocative and pure pleasure. It gives voice to the fans and scholars who espouse these theories, reworking the film to match their ideas and intercutting it with layers of dreamlike imagery to illustrate their streams of consciousness. Sometimes outrageous, always engaging, the words of the interviewees are given full force by Ascher's compelling vision. Also featured at the 2012 Sundance, Cannes and Toronto film festivals. Opens in March 2013 through IFC Midnight. (104 min.)

Review For Movie Room 237
A curious and entertaining documentary.
David Thomson-The New Republic

The human brain is a marvellously suggestible organ.
Peter Howell-Toronto Star

[A] strange, frustrating, occasionally fascinating doc ...
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

"Room 237" evolves from an ode to movie love at its most delirious to a wry examination of the crackpot mind at work.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

There's enough real evidence supporting the theory that Kubrick was a genius, and that's pretty entertaining all by itself.
John Anderson-Newsday

It's about the human need for stuff to make sense - especially overpowering emotional experiences - and the tendency for some people to take that sense-making to extremes.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

Inelegant in the way it assembles all this stuff ... but anyone who's ever obsessed over the subtext of a beloved movie will find it amusing.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

An intellectual exercise, and an entertaining one, especially for those who don't want to label The Shining as just a ghost story.
John Serba-MLive.com

It has the same entertainment value as listening to a late-night radio host indulge his listeners on Roswell, Area 51 and 9/11. Everything sounds completely crackers, until it all makes crazy sense.
Katherine Monk-Canada.com

What emerges from Room 237 is not a denigration of conspiracies, but a kind of celebration of our ability to create patterns where (perhaps) none exist.
Chris Knight-National Post

"Room 237" could become an essential companion piece to "The Shining" from now on. For those who see both, it will be impossible to think about one without the other.
Jeffrey M. Anderson-San Francisco Examiner

...all about the work of criticism - finding fresh avenues of delight.
Philip Martin-Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Watching it makes you feel like you're attending a really entertaining film class where your classmates confidently let their freak flags fly.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

It's an essay about the human need to reject the notion of a random universe and find order and meaning in existence. These people are developing their own creation myths, with Kubrick the mastermind responsible for the Intelligent Design.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Termitic film nerds could chow down for years on the wood chips.
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

You know when "Room 237″ starts getting really scary? When the people in the film start making sense.
Rob Thomas-Capital Times (Madison, WI)

Kubrick fans and movie geeks will want to check this film out as soon as possible
John A. Nesbit-Old School Reviews

Kubrick fans will take 'Shining' to 'Room 237.'
James Verniere-Boston Herald

The credibility of these theories ranges from faintly plausible to frankly ridiculous, but Ascher isn't interested in judging them; his movie is more about the joys of deconstruction and the special kind of obsession that movies can inspire.
Marc Mohan-Oregonian

Some of the interpretations seem more of a stretch than others but all are entertainingly presented by director Rodney Ascher. (The movie) serves as a testament to Stanley Kubrick's cinematic mastery.

Movie Overview For Room 237

A subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining. The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they'll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

Plot Story : The setting is Yokohama in 1963, and the filmmakers lovingly bring to life the bustling seaside town, with its misty harbor, sun-drenched gardens, shops and markets, and some of the most mouthwatering Japanese home-cooking set to film. The story centers on an innocent romance beginning to bud between Umi and Shun, two high school kids caught up in the changing times. Japan is picking itself up from the devastation of World War II and preparing to host the 1964 Olympics - and the mood is one of both optimism and conflict as the young generation struggles to throw off the shackles of a troubled past. While the children work together to save a dilapidated Meiji era club house from demolition, their tentative relationship begins to blossom. But - in an unexpected twist that parallels what the country itself is facing - a buried secret from their past emerges to cast a shadow on the future and pull them apart. (c) GKids

Review For Movie From Up On Poppy Hill
The gorgeous score and subtle visual craft save this entry in the Ghibli canon from mediocrity. But given what the studio is capable of, it's not everything fans will be hoping for.
Catherine Bray-Time Out

A departure for Studio Ghibli - an emotionally nuanced, nostalgic look at the past that is grounded in everyday reality but retains the humor and delight that are part of the studio's trademark.
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald

Goro Miyazaki has a style that's both more painterly and more cinematic than the cartoonish norm, while his father's screenplay is a classic coming-of-age story that seems suited for a live-action remake.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

In the wisdom of this artfully rendered film, Umi and Shun - and the viewer - come to learn that the past and the future should go hand in hand, that the best way to move forward is to reflect, and respect, what came before.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

The story of a girl grappling with first love, the absence of her parents and the anxieties of an on-rushing future in 1963 Yokohama has all the earmarks of a Miyazaki classic.
Ann Hornaday-Washington Post

The film's perfectly fine, but it's not a patch on "Spirited Away," "My Neighbor Totoro," "Princess Mononoke," and other Studio Ghibli classics.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

The story will undoubtedly appear slow moving and uneventful to those used to the pizzazz of Pixar, but allow the richly detailed hand-drawn animation to work its charms and the film's mood of gentle nostalgia proves surprisingly moving.
Jason Best-Movie Talk

From Up on Poppy Hill may be able to boast about its outstanding music and smooth animation, but it's far too flat to leave much of an impression.
Chris Sawin-Examiner.com

A lovely Japanese hand-drawn animated film with a female heroine.
Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat-Spirituality and Practice

It's really hard to go wrong with a Studio Ghibli film, and From Up on Poppy Hill is no exception. It may not be their very best work, but it's still good work, full of charm and fun.
Mike McGranaghan-Aisle Seat

The magic is found in the everyday details of domestic life.
Josh Larsen-LarsenOnFilm

A gently lyrical diversion for Ghibli die-hards ... a gentle snooze for others.
Guy Lodge-This is London

It's a lively, touching story, full of sadness and optimism, drawn with an unaffected simplicity.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

An interesting way of tackling everything from understanding parentage to the atomic bomb which devastated Nagasaki.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

From Up On Poppy Hill finds Goro Miyazaki sitting much more comfortably in the director's chair, but fans of Studio Ghibli's fantasy epics may find this fanciful delight to be lacking the familiar magic.
Michael Leader-Film4

Beautifully precise architectural sketches, endearingly warm nostalgia, gentle teen romance and genuine intrigue.
Tara Brady-Irish Times

It ... arrives with the vast reserves of patience, optimism and artistry we've come to expect from this studio.
Mike McCahill-Guardian [UK]

The incest-scare subplot never trips up the movie's charm. And there's a haunting reverberance, very Hayao Miyazaki, to the war memories that empower the parental back-stories.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

Not up there with the Ghibli masterworks of yore, but still a bounty of ideas and emotions.
David Jenkins-Little White Lies

You don't watch a Studio Ghibli film so much as sink into it like a hot spring, with groans of delight.
Robbie Collin-Daily Telegraph

Joyously warm and gentle... though perhaps too gentle to be entirely satisfying.
MaryAnn Johanson-Flick Filosopher

From Up on Poppy Hill's protagonists emerge as unexpectedly facetless, especially from a studio with such a vibrant and morally complex back catalogue.
Kirsty Leckie-Palmer-The Skinny

The sincerity and sentiment of this film are there to be basked in. Yet audiences outside Japan may find the subject too serious and yet too slight; there's a reason why films about potential incest aren't often as cute as this.
Eddie Harrison-The List

Not on a par with Ghibli's greatest work like Totoro or Spirited Away but not without charms of its own. A solid second effort from Miyazaki Junior.
Owen Williams-Empire Magazine

From the studio that brought us classics like Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, this animated drama feels unusually low-key and realistic.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

Plot Story : Animal rights activists free a group of infected chimpanzees to horrifying results in this speculative sci-fi horror effort from Trainspotting director Danny Boyle. Waking from a coma in a deserted London hospital 28 days later, bicycle courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) takes to the deserted city streets in a state of mystified confusion. Joining forces with another group of survivors following a terrifying encounter in a seemingly abandoned church, Jim soon learns the truth behind the deserted streets and the menacing creatures that lurk in the shadows. Review For Movie 28 Days Later
The movie's craft makes the dread of a killer virus contagious: viewers may feel they have come down with a case of secondhand SARS or sympathetic monkeypox.
Richard Corliss-TIME Magazine

Heedlessly derivative though it may be, 28 Days Later does what it sets out to do and then some -- scare us out of our wits, then get us to apply those wits to an uncommonly intelligent and provocative zombie flick.
Joe Morgenstern-Wall Street Journal

The picture is twitchy and annoying, flecked with blood and half-digested ideas, and too much is left unexplained.
Anthony Lane-New Yorker

Danny Boyle's purposeful direction and Mark Tildesley's imaginative and resourceful production design keep this fresh and edgy; the images of a wasted London and the details of a paramilitary organization in the countryside are both creepy and persuasive.
Jonathan Rosenbaum-Chicago Reader

What also makes 28 Days Later effective, and sets it apart from other thrillers, is that it makes you care about the characters.
Christy Lemire-Associated Press

Danny Boyle has got his edge back.
Geoff Andrew-Time Out

The end result still lacks a coherent sense of what the film is trying to achieve.
Allan Hunter-Screen International

Later does a lot of things right, which makes its third-act missteps even more frustrating.
Nathan Rabin-AV Club

28 Days Later is a mind-bending look at a future one hopes never happens.
Leah Rozen-People Magazine

This Dogme-driven apocalyptic nightmare from director Danny Boyle is a tense, exciting and terrifying horror.
Alan Jones-Radio Times

A crude but sometimes startling serving of schlock, the velocity and ferocity compensating for leaden conversation and smudge-o-vision photography.
-Total Film

The film doesn't confine itself to wry satire -- it's an effective action adventure and an emotional journey for its protagonist Jim.
Daniel Etherington-Film4

A thrilling, gory affair, 28 Days Later is a well directed, believably acted yarn and well worth a watch, particularly for Romero fans.
Daniel Saney-Digital Spy

a wild cocktail of campy, gory fun
Jay Antani-Cinema Writer

Viral apocalypse, zombies, and terror. For adults.
Nell Minow-Common Sense Media

A very frustrating watch as 28 Days Later... could have been a great film and the first half is just that. It is a shame about the rest.
Matthew Pejkovic-Matt's Movie Reviews

This "Dawn of the Dead" inspired chiller is strong on concept, style and brutally violent action, but suffers from poor musical scoring, and a digital video format that helped keep its budget at 10 million dollars.
Cole Smithey-ColeSmithey.com

Entertaining, horrifying, and is sure to be a classic.
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed

A zombie thriller spiked with horror, 28 Days Later begins with plenty of promise and shocks, but gets swallowed up by an overdose of bloody violence.
Urban Cinefile Critics-Urban Cinefile

It degenerates into an incongruous morality tale with an action movie climax that abandons all that came before it.
Joe Lozito-Big Picture Big Sound

The film itself seems to exist in a state of perpetual imbalance... between life and death, the real and the surreal, civilization and chaos.

Review For Movie Shadow Dancer
The film relies on terse dialogue and boggy colors to create an atmosphere dense with anxiety -- all well handled by director James March.
Walter V. Addiego-San Francisco Chronicle

A respectable political/psychological suspenser, but not a wildly entertaining or enjoyable one.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

A tautly minimalist, occasionally generic study of betrayal and family ties.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

[Riseborough's] work is indrawn and riveting. It's hard to read the look in her eye, but we never stop trying.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

This British thriller by James Marsh is a little too neatly scripted and tightly edited for my taste, but there are galvanizing performances from Andrea Riseborough... and Clive Owen.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

These are characters for whom true belief in a cause has probably become impossible; they know how much that costs. Marsh does a compelling job of illustrating that for the rest of us.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic

Despite solid performances, a slow first half takes away from this otherwise effective drama about an IRA sympathizer whose life becomes more complicated after she's coerced into spying for MI-5.
James Plath-Movie Metropolis

It's absorbing, intelligent and sad.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

Themes ripped from today's headlines lend "The Troubles" of Northern Ireland very tense, sobering, contemporary immediacy. . . Riseborough [is] mesmerizing at first sight.
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

[Director James Marsh] shows a deft hand with his actors and elicits a notable performance from [Andrea] Riseborough. The production is straightforward on all fronts and catches the bleakness hovering above Belfast under siege.
Robin Clifford-Reeling Reviews

Marsh focuses this slowly simmering drama on more universal themes of family, betrayal and decisions that people make that are both right and wrong at the same time.
Christine N. Ziemba-Paste Magazine

a potent, ultimately disheartening slow-burn drama
James Kendrick-Q Network Film Desk

So many situations and plot points seem too sketchy here, but the two main characters manage to intrigue us, thanks to Andrea Riseborough and Clive Owen.
Betty Jo Tucker-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

...a quietly disturbing look at the choices placed before someone who is caught between two worlds, neither offering harbor.
Laura Clifford-Reeling Reviews

Shadow Dancer is a quiet film that demands careful attention...
Leonard Maltin-Leonard Maltin's Picks

By keeping politics in the background and emphasizing more than a few tenuous relationships, he allows the conflict, mistrust, and dishonesty in both Collette's and Mac's camps to come through without taking sides.
Joe Friedrich-TV Guide's Movie Guide

Dead-serious but also rather deadly is this IRA thriller, too intent on being portentous rather than riveting.
David Noh-Film Journal International

The only poetry in this harsh film is in the title.
Craig Seligman-Bloomberg News

The movie is sure-footed in its storytelling, right up to its appropriately open-ended conclusion.

Review For Movie Iron Sky
Great idea, lousy execution: "Iron Sky" boasts one of the zaniest premises in recent memory, and somehow manages to squander most of its potential.
Jeff Shannon-Seattle Times

In space, no one can hear you laugh either.
William Goss-Film.com

'Iron Sky' just proves that even the dumbest idea needs a smart mind behind it.
Tom Huddleston-Time Out

It's Nazis from space. Cult movie fans will basically know what to expect. It's just a shame it couldn't have been a bit better.
Catherine Bray-Film4

To its credit, while routinely stupid, it is playfully so - and it gets over the line through sheer force of charm. A "triumph of the will", if you catch our drift. (Sorry.)
Patrick Kolan-Shotgun Critic

Shock horror: hilariously terrible-sounding movie ends up being nowhere near as fun as you might hope. This does not bode well for my time-travelling monkey idea.
Matt Looker-TheShiznit.co.uk

The film hasn't the budget to match its dizzying concept, nor the wit to fill the gaps between.
Matt Glasby-Flicks.co.nz

Despite some ill-advised turns of tonality, Iron Sky remains intriguing, submitting a lively sci-fi vision with a pronounced historical playfulness, keeping the feature eager to please and out to awe.
Brian Orndorf-Blu-ray.com

History tells us that you can't fake trash classics and you can't manufacture a cult.
Tara Brady-Irish Times

The jokes are spasmodic, as satirically weightless as playing golf on the moon.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

Re-watch the teaser trailer, skip the final production.
Sam Bathe-Fan The Fire

A space-ploitation brain fart.
Ed Whitfield-The Ooh Tray

Nazis on the moon! What could be more brilliantly bonkers than the lunatic premise of satirical sci-fi action comedy Iron Sky? Sadly, Finnish director Timo Vuorensola fails to make the most of his conceit.
Jason Best-Movie Talk

The space battle scenes are impressive, Julia Dietze is sexy and demure as the Nazi schoolteacher sent to Earth and there are genuinely funny moments.
Mark Adams-Daily Mirror [UK]

Lowballing schlock and nothing more.
David Jenkins-Little White Lies

Stylishly made with some terrific effects, Iron Sky also draws on everything from Star Wars to Dr Strangelove, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and a Sarah Palin-style US President in Stephanie Paul...
Graham Young-Birmingham Post

It's Nazis from space. Cult movie fans will basically know what to expect. It's just a shame it couldn't have been a bit better.
-Film4

Madchens in tight blouses, space travelling stormtroopers, - was ist not to like?
Tim Evans-Sky Movies

Completely fails to deliver on its basic premise and is ultimately disappointing, thanks to a lazy script, poor performances and ham-fisted direction.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

Balls, that core factor found in the best political satires, is what Iron Sky is lacking.
Matthew Pejkovic-Matt's Movie Reviews

Let's face it: it's Nazis from the Moon invading Earth in flying saucers, if you're expecting anything other than abject absurdity, you're in the wrong movie.
Tim Martain-The Mercury

Marginally more inspired and certainly more likable than Snakes on a Plane or The Human Centipede as net-spawned exploitation fodder goes, but you can safely wait for the DVD.
Mike McCahill-Guardian [UK]

Review For Movie Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Works marvel after marvel in expressing the bewildering beauty and existential horror of being trapped inside one's own addled mind, and in allegorising the self-preserving amnesia of a broken but hopeful heart.
Jessica Winter-Time Out

It's the kind of film that could mean more to people after they've left the theater and thought about it awhile.
Peter Rainer-New York Magazine

There is little charm in the coupling and almost no erotic intimacy, just a series of nerve-racking conversational collisions.
Andrew Sarris-New York Observer

The disappointment I felt at the end of Eternal Sunshine was almost crushing, simply because there were sections of it that were as daring in their emotional directness as anything I've seen in years.
Stephanie Zacharek-Salon.com

[Kaufman] clearly surpasses himself.
Jonathan Rosenbaum-Chicago Reader

Neither wholly cynical nor wholly romantic, Kaufman's story is a balance of smarts and sentiment.
Michael O'Sullivan-Washington Post

Imaginative, loopy romance is for adults only.
Nell Minow-Common Sense Media

Michel Gondry tries to channel Fellini and ends up irrigating faulty plumbing.
Cole Smithey-ColeSmithey.com

This is a wonderful, often beautiful, and melancholy character study of romance, humanity, and the mind with wonderful acting, incredible surrealism and a funny and heart-wrenching story.
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed

The film entertains for the most part and gives us a set of marvellous performances from this outstanding cast, even if it doesn't quite reach the near-genius of Kaufman's other writings.
Urban Cinefile Critics-Urban Cinefile

Most imaginative and impressively executed...
Mark Halverson-Sacramento News & Review

Kaufman and Gondry bring out all the weirdness of the premise, sometimes eliciting disbelieving laughter, sometimes taking us to odd, chilly places.
Rob Gonsalves-eFilmCritic.com

Walking into a theater with Charlie Kaufman on the screen is like volunteering for that wacky boat trip Willy Wonka took through the chocolate factory tunnel...
Gina Carbone-Seacoast Newspapers (NH/Maine)

Eternal Sunshine is fresh, heartfelt and ultimately heartbreaking in its honest portrayal of a modern relationship.
Mariko McDonald-Film Threat

The reality is that Hollywood is such an idea poor place Kaufman tends to get more credit than he deserves for work which only occasionally rises above the level of mind games and showy sleight of hand.
Rick Kisonak-Film Threat

It is an enchanting clutter of love and reason that will only appeal to the audience willing to take the time to see the movie and then think about it later.
Jason Zingale-Bullz-Eye.com

A unique deconstruction of man's innate desire to avert heartache.
Nick Schager-Lessons of Darkness

The kind of movie that only gets better the more you think about it and I think it cries out for repeat viewings.
Ethan Alter-NYC Film Critic

You won't soon forget this walk down memory lane. Actually, make that a RUN down memory lane.
Kevin A. Ranson-MovieCrypt.com

Odd but compelling; one of the year's 10 best
Fr. Chris Carpenter-Catholic Sun

like in the best sci-fi, it's primarily a metaphor for a deeper dilemma: the question of whether or not we'd really be better off eliminating heartbreak from our lives.
Luke Y. Thompson-New Times

Most Hollywood films tell us we have everything we need within ourselves. [This movie] indicates that we need each other, even ... when togetherness disrupts happiness.
Jeffrey Overstreet-Christianity Today

...aligned with the Nietzschean idea that we are doomed to be ourselves, that the "eternal recurrence of the same" has a gravitational pull on our hearts.
Philip Martin-Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

An unusual one but a great one, it will have you asking questions about the true nature of love for some time afterwards.
Glen Bucher-ComingSoon.net

Without a connection to the central relationship, all of Kaufman's musings and Gondry's visual frills would be for naught, but... it all fits into place.
